A Brief History of
Saint Marguerite Bourgeoys Roman Catholic Church

Our Church was founded on May 30, 1982. The founding families, under the leadership of their Pastor, Reverend John B. Hossan, cleared the fields and prepared the site for construction. Memories of those exciting days are still very vivid and the tales of hard work and new adventures are still told as new parishioners question the beauty of their Church and its surroundings. One can easily relive the New England Connecticut families clearing their homestead and the taste of country food hurried to hungry workers... Like their forefathers, their toil was one of love and new adventure.

While construction was underway, Masses were celebrated in nearby Huckleberry Elementary School and the local movie theater. Folks are quick to recall the smell of popcorn and the marquee movie of the weekend, The Best Little Whore House in Texas! The church functioned in everyway - masses, sacraments and catholic education. Most of the families of the new Parish happily joined in prayerful appreciation for their new Church; a few families (as is always the case) could not accept the change and chose to go elsewhere. The doors to the new church finally opened in 1986 and the Founding Families prayed in awe as their Bishop, the late Most Reverend Walter M. Curtis, consecrated the altar, blessed its walls and proclaimed the church open in the name of Saint Marguerite Bourgeoys.

The parishioners in main part live within the boundaries of the parish although many come from surrounding towns. The traditional nature of the Roman Catholic way of life beacons to those hungering for the Apostolic Church. The catechetical teachings of the Roman Catholic Church are the teachings used in every section of the parish's Roman Catholic Education programs. The most extensive of these programs include Catholic Education of Children (CCD) through to the Sacrament of Confirmation and beyond, the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adult converts (RCIA), evening Bible School, and adult Catechetical Education.

Since its founding, Saint Marguerite Parish has grown to over 1025 families; an average of two families each week during the past few years.
